Febuary 20, 2013 I met up with 15 student doctors from Palmer College of Chiropractic at Chicago O’Hare airport. I also reconnected with Dr. Chris Akey and trip coordinator Sonya Willers. Together we flew down to Manaus, Brazil for a chiropractic clinic abroad. Our first day, we had a tour of the city. Manaus, Amazonas is in northern Brazil and sits right on the Rio Negro River, right off the Amazon River. With a population of 1.8 Million people, it is a busy city.
With the help of amazing translators and the perseverance of the student docs, we saw approximately 3,000 patient visits. On the last day of adjusting, we were at an orphanage called Angels of Hope outside of Manaus. The students raised over $1,000 and donated all of it to help the children have better lives. Over all it was an extremely successful trip. I made new friends and saw students turn into real doctors in front of my eyes. I live for these experiences and can’t wait for the next one. We only have one life, and I’m trying to do as much as I can with what God gave me.
